Rookie Plant Dad - Juniper Procumbens Nana was created by Beau7

Evening Everyone,

My confidence was riding sky high today after successfully developing a Chinese Elm 名媛直播 over the past year, so I went and purchased an eight year old Juniper (Procumbens Nana) this afternoon.

She stands approximately 12-14 inches tall and is lush and healthy. However, I am now a little gun shy and do not know how to proceed and would like some help if able from this community of enthusiasts and pros alike.

I have included a picture below for your viewing pleasure. Should I prune, or wait for another season and just do my best to keep her alive?

Thank You All.

Hello and welcome.
First of all, I hope the juniper is inside only for the picture, because if you plan on keeping it inside it will die, no doubt about it.
Second, commonly the advice is to do nothing the first year. Keep it alive, fertilise it when necessary, full sun, water when necessary., nothing else. Look at it a thousand times from all sides to find the bonsai inside, or decide to let it grow for a decade or so to create a bigger tree.

I do the same to all my new trees. Just leave them to grow for at least one full growing season. Start to work after a year in the right time (in northern hemisphere not now for junipers). But only if I think the tree have full health, if not I wait another season.

I have one non hardy tree that didnt got to full health until 3 seasons passed. After that I repotted only to realize 3 seasons later that now it is getting into full vigour so I can do some styling this authum. One extreme example, but 6,5 years until first styling. But anyway, the time between purshase and first styling shoul always be long enough that you when it is time, know what you want to do with the tree.

Thank You.

Yes, I only brought the plant inside for the picture. The background helped show the fullness of health. I appreciate the response and will hold off on anything for the first year.
