Hello everyone
I have some questions about keeping bonsai. I bought this Zanthoxylum piperitum yesterday, and I already repotted it, because the soil didn't look good at all and it was very dry. Also I wanted a fresh start for my new bonsai.
Although I may have gone too far with the size of the pot. Should I repot into a smaller and actual bonsai pot? I think I'll have some trouble watering this huge amount of soil when the roots only go down like 5 cm / 2 inces.
In the near future I'd like to style it into a Moyogi style, is it possible? Can I start wiring this little one already or I should wait and do it later?
Also if you have any watering tips for this pot, I'd like to hear them. But still I think I should repot it, cause currently the roots dont need this amount of soil.
Thanks for your time.
Have a nice day.
Renato

Do absoluttely nothing more than growing the tree for the first year. No repotting, no wiring, no prunning. Just focus on tree healt and study your baby. If full health after a year, proceed with one work on the tree a year at the correct time.

Thank you for your advice
Can you tell me about a little about watering? How frequently should I water it?
I assume watering might be different having this bigger pot.

Allways water when the tree needs it, not on a scedule. It looks like a quite big pot with organic soil. I find it quite hard to get watering right under those conditions, so I use a soil moisture sensor to check if it is time or not.
Please note, this is for organic soil only. If you keep tree in mostly unorganic soil it will allways read wrong.

...and, most important: outside when temps are above 10-ish.

Thank you, I'll do as you say
One more question is it too late to mix the organic soil with Akadama, or at least cover the surface with it?
Earlier I couldn't get it, but now I can purchase some if it is necessary.
I'd buy it mostly because I'm still not confident about its watering. Akadama would make it obvious.

Covering a big pot of organic soil with akadama will not help you watering correctly. Yes, the akadama tells you when the top soil is dry, but nothing about the status 5 cm down. If using akadama in the way you suggests you will proboably have problem with massive overwatering and root rot.
