Recently all of the leaves fell off of my Chinese Elm tree, which is weird because around this time last year my tree was nice and green with a lot of leaves. I've only had my tree for about a year, so I'm pretty new to bonsai. I haven't been able to figure out the exact cause; my dad thinks its because I repotted a while ago into a much smaller pot but I'm not sure if its something else? A few weeks after I repotted it there was a good amount of growth on my tree so I don't know if that's the case...

If your plant is placed in the sun in natural environment then it is quite normal for leaves to drop in spring and new buds to appear. If on the other hand it has not been outside then put it there and it will respond. Keep it properly watered, even in the rain.

Ah, okay! Should I be worried if my tree is bare for more than a few weeks? My tree is being kept outside by the way.

As long as it has been watered, and not allowed to get dry then yes it should be fine. That is what they do. Some of mine are only just starting to bud.

My chinese elm kept in unheated greenhouse is just breaking into leaf now after beeing almost bare for 6 weeks. I was a little bit worried that it died after our very long and cold winter. But it is comming back really vigorous. And I am sure me worrying didnt do any good or bad for the tree.
So the simple answer is dont worry, eighther the tree lives or dies and there is nothing to do more than wait and water.
