Ginseng ficus leaves turning black please help! was created by Felixthefat

I've had this ficus for about 2 weeks now. I bought it from ikea and it stays on my desk. I have kept it fairly wet and it hasn't really dried out yet. But recently some of the leaves are starting to turn black at the tips, what am I doing wrong? All help highly appreciated!

How wet have you kept it? Ficus don't really need a ton of water so if your substrate doesn't have good drainage that may be be causing an overwatering effect. I got mine not long ago and water every week or two depending on conditions, and he seems to be doing alright.

Hello and welcome.
If you bought it from IKEA it’s more than probably a ficus ginseng ( branches grafted on fat roots) which isn’t considered a bonsai really ( other than it being labelled bonsai for selling purposes)
Treat it as any other normal houseplant and it will do fine- check a houseplant forum , there will be lots of info about them there.

Ficus can really drink a lot of water, but only if they are happy. Most of the time, the ficus people have are not cared for suitably.
Think moist tropics: Loads of light, 20+ degrees and humid air. That will make a ficus jump for joy and grow. If one of these factors is lacking, normally light in our houses, they sulk and slow down. At that point they need little water.
As for other recommendations, I would suggest reading this:
