As a complete beginner now trying to not kill his second cheap B&Q Chinese elm (10-15cm)... I am going to be patient and develop it

I was going to repot it, mainly to get it into a looser soil texture from the shop bought compacted soil - hopefully roots grow better

-Is Kurodama on its own feasible? / mixed with some soil to allow water retention so that I don't have to worry about days away when I'm working shifts

-OR should I pot it in a bigger pot with a more conventional mix of well-draining compost to allow development of this small 10cm plant....

Its currently indoors but I will overwinter it outside this season in the autumn

Thank you

Never heard of Kurodama, this plant will not survive inside full stop. Only re pot it if it is not draining well, not because you can. Unless you are in a place that is freezing below -10C then it should be outside. As for soil as long as it is free draining it will be fine but again unless the pot is too small for the plant no do not go into a bigger pot.

Complete beginner going to be patient and repot a newly purshased tree. That makes no sense. Patient means not repotting, prunning or wiering until at least one full season has passed. Can you do that?
