Hi!
I recently bought acer palmatum nana and juniperus procumbens nana from a botanical garden store. The soil of both plants is covered completely with moss. Some online bonsai forums say to leave the moss, some to remove it immediately, because the roots may rot. What should I do? I'd appreciate your input!

Hello and welcome.
Before we talk of moss: have you place your plants inside ( where they will die) or outside ( where they belong)?
Moss: most of us remove it because it prevents you from evaluating the humidity of the soil, prevents water from entering the soil and can host a lot of bugs and diseases

I do use moss on some trees and not on other. I agree that it is a little bit more tricky to care for the ones with moss. But I like moss and stick to the low growing kind.

Moss will not cause root rot. That is caused by poor drainage. However, moss can make it difficult to notice poor drainage... Liverwort on the other hand may be an indicator of poor drainage (it likes soggy soil), so if you see liverwort in your pots, get rid of it and try to figure out why soil is draining poorly.
I like moss, and usually would not take it away. It makes the trees look older.
