I had this maple down in the basement for the winter, and moved it out on march. It budded new leaves and now it's almost full of leaves thanks to good weather. But, I've noticed that the leaves doesn't look like they should?
It's weird because as a gardener, new shoots and green leaves mostly means a healthy plant. But even tho there are lots of new leaves coming , all of them look like they're writhering? I'm not even sure how to describe it. Simply put, the leaves don't hold themselves up like a normal leaf, but all of them curls down and look like leggy.
The plant is healthy tho. No leaf dropping, nothing. It's healthy. So I'm confused.
Pics included below.

The leaves look as if they are just opening, which is fine providing it is outside. The soil also looks dry.

Yes I also confirm what Geoff wrote... young leaves on trident maples look very sad after buds open, and they may stay like this for a few weeks..
I had the same question myself in spring 2020 as I had recently purchased a small tree and I was puzzled...

When maples bud out and the leaves emerge, it is similar to when a butterfly comes out of its cocoon. After another week or two, the leaves should get nice and hard and the shape will become proud and flatten out.

Thanks everyone for pitching in, now I understand.
Basically, this is me being a noob and not doing enough research lol. Yes, they just budded out. I shall await and see how it goes from here , then.
Ps: of course it's outside, and the soil looks dry because picture was made in the morning before my routine watering.
Thanks once again, I feel relieved now.
Happy growing!

OK... but make sure you don't water on schedule or routine but only when the soil starts to dry!
