Hi everyone,As my first post I would like to introduce myself and at the same time asking you a couple questions!
My name is Ugo and Im from Qc, Canada
I cant say that Im practicing bonsai since years but I always like everything around this hobby.
For fun I was reshaping trees at my parents place and I was proud of my work.
But I always tried with trees coming from my country, that can be left outside all year long or atleast requiring no attention during winter.
To make a long story short I received a gift from my father friend.
A ficus "shaped" as a bonsai tree and I cannot really discribe it for now... but I know its a tropical tree.
I saw the tree maybe 3 months ago and it was looking quite good but before I received it the owner decided to do a major pruning.
As for the style I can see maybe a clump style bonsai with aerial roots but I cant say I really like it.
The repot was done 2 weeks ago from what I know.
So does it worth investing time and effort?
So far I bought a solar lamp, Its on 12hrs a day now, and the tree will have to stay inside till late June.
Plus liquid fertiliser 24-8-16I read it was good for this type of tree from spring to mid August.
I got the tree at the end of last week so I dont really kown what to do now!
My father told me that this tree is "old" but its still small, Ive seems nebari from this type of tree measuring double and triple that size.
Give me your first impressions on what I should do with this little tree! My first impression is I dont really like the style.. but there might potential my beginner eyes cant see.
Thanks
Ugo

Hmm, interesting. Looks like a failed trunk fusing atempt. I quite like it. Styling vice, I would be happy with reducing a lot and start to develop a crown further down.

Hi
Thanks for your reply!
That's what I had in mind but I dont think its time yet...
After the repot and the hard pruning I guess I should wait probably next year before cutting down thoses branches.
I will see how it goes when the temperature will be warmer. The tree will go outside under semi-sun.
This year I will try to put emphasis on the nebari.
I could try the major reshaping at the end of next winter, few weeks before spring.
I can see this tree at around 15in.
Do you think its possible to graf the branches I will cut?
If so I will start studiying the technique!
Im not sure if I should keep the major branch, cut the others and graf them on it.
Or cut them all lower at maybe 10in, maybe graf one or two branches and keep only the new branches that will be in the right position.
