Hi, could anyone let me know is this bonsai going to be okay potted like this or does it need to be deeper planted into soil?

The fine roots seem to be under the soil so that’s ok. It’s a bit a matter of taste, but I would have planted it a bit deeper.
And I’d remove those pebbles, they prevent you from seeing the soil so you can not evaluate if the plant needs water.
Btw, you are not placing this tree inside I hope?

I was hoping the pebbles will help with keeping the soil in the pot while being watered?
No this plant will be kept outside getting quite a bit of sun.

What kind of soil did you use ? Normal potting soil will tend to “wash off” in the beginning, and is not a good choice cause it remains very wet. The coarse substrate most of us use doesn’t wash off (well anything washes off when you use a power washer, but you know what I mean)and aerates the roots very good.

These commercial premixed “bonsai” soils have usually too much organic components
