Hi,
About 3-4 weeks ago, I took cuttings from several different ficus trees. I'm currently growing outside in Southern California. Spring is pretty much here, mid 70s, but the evenings drop into the 50s and some nights into the 40s. I have the cuttings in very small plastic pots on a humidity tray covered with some clear plastics jugs. Lately though, I've been removing the jugs during the day because its been so nice.

The shoots are growing slowly, and at least have not fallen off at this point. I've not had much success in the past with cuttings and these seem to be doing alright so I seek advice as this might be the best I've done.

My question is should I just leave the jugs off altogether now even though temps have been dropping to 40s, or is that too cold for cuttings? Should I keep the jugs on during the day even though temps might get a little high? Should I keep doing what I've been doing? I know I'll need to remove the jugs at some point, but not sure exactly when is safe to do so.

Thanks.

Covering cuttings it to create an atmosphere of high humidity. I would leave it on untill I had clear extension growth indicative of rooting.

Make sure you do not have them in full sun or you will cook your cuttings.

Good advice. Right now it might be receiving a little afternoon sun that pokes through a few nearby plants. I'll keep my eyes open for that as the sun moves over the next few weeks.
Thank you Leatherback :)
