Beginner advise please - zelkova loose in pot and other questions was created by Superdux

So I have always had a passing interest in 名媛直播, and on a recent trip to my local RHS garden centre I notice some cheap 'indoor bonsai' on sale for ?6.50 each, so why not??

I have a (as was labelled) Zelkova, Sageretia and a Carmona. The Carmona I have had for nearly two weeks actually and the other two for two days.

I purchased the 名媛直播 Empire beginners book which I have read through as well as some other guides and videos. Other than helping my wife on our allotment I have little horticultural knowledge or experience. Im trying not to go mad as is my tendency and spend hundreds of pounds on all the kit, that I may not need and definitely wont know what to do with, before im even up and off the ground.

I appreciate I have a huge amount to learn.

First question - The Zelkova is loose in the pot, it looks almost as if the pot has maybe been broken at some point and it has just been dropped into a new one. Is this a problem? Should I repot?

Second - The Sageretia is loosing leaves fast, it looked a bit ropey when I purchased it..... Any tips? Ive read if left to go too dry even once this can be the end?

Third - Fertiliser, I have purchased a cheap liquid bonsai fertiliser (westland) from amazon, NPK 1.8-1-2.3 Is this sufficient? From my research I should use once a month in non growth months and maybe once a week in growth period?

Many thanks in advance, Andrew

1 No need to repot.
2 Sorry, no tips.
3. Sounds fine. Just follow the instructions on the bottle.

Loose in pot may mean the root ball is dried out.

No matter what the label says, zelkova is not indoor.

Where are you situated? The Zelcova needs to be outside, and it sounds as if it is dry. As it has been in a covered environment then it probably is, same applies to the other two. Do not re pot just firm it back in the pot and if it is dry water it.

In Uk, Devon so winters here are generally warmer than most of UK (-3 this week worst for years) and pretty wet, I have a south facing garden so outside is fine.

I had read in the 名媛直播 Empire book if it is acclimatised for indoor from young then indoor is fine, but I should still go outside yes?

Ill have a further look and confirm if it is Chinese or Japanese Elm. The tags on all were impressively vague....

To my very untrained eye it does indeed look like a Chinese elm yes?

Ok, well by the middle of next week it should be a lot milder and I would get it out then. It odes not matter if it called Chinese or Japanese the cultivation is the same. It looks as if the pot is a bit on the small size, I think I would look for a pot a bit bigger and grow the tree bigger. South facing is good,
