My juniper is losing chunks of its foliage lately and seems to be turning brown/light yellow in hue. I live in the northwestern United States and don't know if it will survive outside in the cold... I am watering it daily and misting it, it is in my room and has sunlight from my window, but I am scared of losing it. I really love my tree. What am I doing wrong? Is it normal?

You are killing it, it may even already be dead, it will not survive inside.

Junipers are green long after they died. I am so sorry, but most likelly it is gone.
But it is not totally sure that it is you that killed it. The fact that they stay green so long after death has created a whole industry producing, distributing and selling pourly rooted cuttings with very slim chanses of survival.

Is there any way to tell.... It was a gift from my mother for Christmas... I named it because I thought it was fine after a while... I can post a picture of it. I really don't want it to die....

It soaks up the water in its dish still and it isn't like super shedding just little bits...

Good news: it doesn’t look dead -yet
Bad news: you are killing it.
So, outside in full sun with it pronto. If it is below zero, protect it a bit from freezing winds.
The soil looks really dry ( it’s detached from the sides of the pot). How are you watering it? The right way is from above, with a garden hose or watering can, giving it a good shower untill water spills from the drainage hole underneath. You say it soaks up water from the dish- are you watering it by pouring water in that dish?

We are having a snow warning, as soon as that passes he will be moving to the sun outside! I am glad to know he isn't lost yet. I watered him and he started dripping from the bottom holes and his soil is slowly (I think) Reattaching to the sides, for the time being, he is in a sunny open area of my house, and well move outside as soon as possible (AKA when the snow warning passes!) Thank you guys so much! Gremlin thanks you too!

Snow doesnt hurt the tree. Being inside does. Do not keep that tray underneath it.

Snow is a very good insulator, so it protects the tree from the cold. It actually is kinda warm inside an igloo or snow castle... It also protects from too much water evaporating, so the tree won't dry up that quickly. Juniper is one of the hardiest trees that you find in cold barren environments no other tree would survive. If I tried to plant trees on Mars, I would start with junipers
