Hi all, I have managed to grow something from a grow it bonsai kit and have managed to sprout 5 plants which are about 8 months old, thought they were some sort of bonsai but most of the leaves are what I would say fully grown tree size, also they have started to turn brown, I had to move them to a darker place because they attracted so many little flies, got myself some yellow sticky fly traps so they are back to where they were thriving before, are they beyond help or us there something I can do? Read that I might have over watered them because I didn’t change my watering routine when I moved them.

First problem is that they are inside. The size of the leaves does not matter. These seedlings have a lot of growing to do before you need to worry about the size.

Can I just stick them outside? I know they are meant to be hardy but gets cold in Scotland and the packet never said what type of bonsai they are, I reckon Chinese elm by the leaves shape

It is not chineese elm, unless you have them in 2 cm high pots .

As the trees havent got used to the temperature slowly, they will not take frost. Somewhere between 5 and 10 c would be your best chanse.

You do know that there are no such things as bonsai species or bonsai seeds?

Lol, found out by research after been giving the gift set that they are trees manipulated into staying into shape and size but still thought you get different types/species, knew it would be hard but gave it a bash and tried following the instructions then online help but there’s a lot of mixed information out there and thought I was doing pretty well till a few weeks back, doing my girlfriends head in how much time and space it’s been looking after these, had 30 tiny sprouts at one point, the plan was to put them outside but didn’t want to put them out too early after sprouting incase I hurt them in the cold and then it got cold so then was hoping I could put the out when it started to warm up again! Will put them out tomorrow and hope for the best, be gutted if they don’t make it

If you are facing frost be very careful. As theese seedlings hasent been hardened of they will likelly die by frost.
