Hello everyone,

I have always loved the idea of keeping and caring for a bonsai but I am a college student in upstate New York. I've been reading some of the posts on this forum and I've sort of lost hope that this is even possible for me to pick up right now. I dont have any outdoor area which gets any sunlight where my plant wouldn't be picked up by strangers. Should I just wait until after college? Or do I have hope...

Hello and welcome.
I’ll have to disappoint you: there is no such thing as an indoor tree. If you you through the help section here you will find that 99% of the “help my tree is dying” questions there are from people with indoor trees. Many have tried, even more have failed.

You could get yourself a crassula tree. Althou not considered bonsai by many bonsai artists it is possible to form them as miniature trees. They are succulents, so the dry air in our homes is no problem for them.

Check bonzai zone Nigel Saunders on Youtube. He have a few videos about crassula, jade trees.

Hi! Personally I have all my trees indoors right now and I live in upstate New York as well. However I do have grow lights and a humidifier for the trees, so if you do get a tree I’d recommend having a grow light and a humidifier. I do take them outside in the spring though.

Also I do recommend checking out Nigel Saunder’s YouTube channel, he has all sorts of trees and succulents and whether or not you get a tree now his channel is great to watch.
