Hello Everyone,
I got this bonsai 3 years ago (10 years old now) and recently I noticed there's quite a bit of roots coming out from the drainage hole. The last time I water it was roughly 3 weeks ago and it drain just fine. From looking at the pictures, do you think I need to repot it in early Spring? I have never done any root pruning ... and I am thinking of getting her a bigger oval pot and probably renewing the soil too.
Thanks you for your help!

You may need to re pot in spring, but no it does not need a bigger pot. The one it is in big enough. The lower branch which is parallel with the next one up I would remove, I would also think about removing the thin one that comes from the same point. I can't see all of or or the other side so I could have it wrong, so it is up to you to decide. You can re pot as the buds are starting to open. Leave the pruning until after the leaves have opened and hardened off, depending on where you are that could be mid to late May.

Thanks you for your advice.
I will plan ahead of time to make sure I have everything before spring.
I have only pruned small branches in the past.
The one that is parallel seems quite thick.
Do I need to get a concave cutter and cut paste to cover its wound?
For repotting, I assume I need to trim some of the roots less than 1/3?
Still so much to learn... Cheers!

You can take quite a lot of roots off, you will need cut paste as it is a thick branch. Concave cutters would be useful, or a small saw.

It would be so much easier to find a small saw.
I only see this pruning paint in my local stores.
All the cutting paste are discontinued and I don't know why.
Do you have any recommendation that I should use?
