Hey! I got a juniper bonsai tree for my birthday yesterday. it is about 4 inches tall and i followed everything i read online about getting it potted. After potting it, i have just left it alone outside.
my question is whats next? :) do i just leave it alone until late winter when i can start shaping it, trimming it, etc.?
any help is appreciated!

congratulations!

What is next.. Now you wait. First to see whether it lives..

And for a tree that wait means: Wait one growing season. So my summer you should be certain your actions did not kill it.
I know.. You would like to do things now.. But.. A large part of bonsai is to let nature do its thing.!

Do you have pictures?

That is a young cutting. You can leave it for 3 years or more to grow. Meantime you will learn what you need to start the journey towards becomming a bonsai.

If you leave it inside it will be a dead cutting very soon - it needs to be outside!!
