Hello everyone. I am new hear. I just doug up a little old birch. Unfortunately I had to cut off all of the roots. Is there anything I can do to save this tree. I do have some of the area that was below the dirt. . I have heard of a technique called sweating but have really found very little about it. Please any helpful info would be great thank you.

Do you have a picture?
Cutting all the roots off is a bad idea. But it also means different things to different people. If you really cut off all the roots.. I have bad experience with Birch-with-few-roots.

Doesnt look like it was dug up, more like cut flush to the ground with chain saw.

Actually I cut it after the fact. I am still in need of a solution not an observation.

It needs to be in a pot/box now. If it really has no roots you might be wasting your time.

Dont know if it will servive as a big ass trunkcutting. Well anyway, roots grow above 7celcius. So if you keep the lower part/soil above 7celcius (heat mat), and the top part in lower temprature(below 7celcius), then it will stay dormant. Scrape some bark at the edges below(where you did the cuts), and add some rooting powder all around it. And then put spagnum moss all around it. Put it in a green house, so you can keep humidty fairly high.
And then hope for the best. Really a waste if it will not servive. Hopefully when you go 'dig' again, you are more prepaired then now.

If it is not. Next time, do not cut the roots of a tree.
Toss this in a firewood pit
