Beginner looking for help and advice. was created by AlexG13

I received a Chinese elm bonsai for Christmas and I love it, I am very eager to learn as much as I can and take proper care of my bonsai. Unfortunately the bonsai I received has some white colouring at the top of the trunk, which is rather unsightly. I’m worried that it is something that will affect my trees health. I have done a bit of research on different fungi and diseases but can’t seem to put my finger on what it is. Any advice on identifying the problem and how to move forward with my bonsais care would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome.
without a picture it is impossible to know what you are talking about.
You are keeping your tree outside i hope?

Sorry, I thought that I attached the images in the original post hopefully these ones will upload. I’m currently keeping my bonsai indoors on a windowsill. I will be moving it outside onto a small balcony area in the very near future, I’m just waiting on a greenhouse that I’ve ordered as I don’t want the frost to kill my tree, or would you suggest putting it outside straight away? I haven’t had time to prepare anything as it was a Christmas gift.
