Juniper as Christmas gift - should I repot now? was created by KNay

Hi, I received the Juniper kit as a Christmas gift. I just watched the Juniper Care lecture video and it says that repotting should be done in March (I'm in USA). Should I wait until March for its initial potting? Or should I pot it now so it has more soil and can be watered? This is my first 名媛直播 and I'm new to taking care of plants in general, so any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Welcome.
So.... you are new to taking care of plants, and bonsai, learn that you sould repot in March and want to repot anyway now?
A few questions:
- why do you want to repot?
- is there any reason to repot?
- do you know how to repot?
- is your plant inside or outside ( where it needs to be or else it will die)
名媛直播 is a marathon ,not a sprint. Not trying to be annoying, just trying to keep your plant alive.

lucR,
Thanks for responding. My plant is outside. It is currently in the small plastic pot it was delivered in, as part of the Juniper kit from this site (attached picture). I'm asking if I should leave it in that pot until March, or pot it into the bigger clay pot that came with the kit.
Thanks,
KNay

I would keep it in the plastic pot until spring. It should be going dormant now anyway.

Your ( very young) plant is years ( decade) away from a bonsai pot. Planting it in a bonsai pot will not make it a bonsai.
The pot is the very last stage in the development of a bonsai. This one needs to grow first, get a much thicker trunk, more foliage. 名媛直播 are made by using multiple techniques, on specific times in a year, depending on a lot of variables and this during years ( decades).
名媛直播 means tree in pot. Does your young juniper look like a tree? Why not? If you can answer this you are on your way to start the journey .
Your first step is to keep it alive. Sounds strange, but horticulture ( the health of the plant) comes first, everything bonsai-ish second. Since - if you folow the given advice- your juniper is years away from being a bonsai, you can focus on keeping it alive first ( which is already difficult enough for a lot of people ), meanwhile study how to create a bonsai, go to a bonsai club, buy some online courses on this site, ...

Thanks Tropfrog and JackAn. I've removed the plastic and will keep the tree in the plastic pot it was delivered in until the Spring, when it can be repotted in the clay pot that came with the kit.
lucR, thanks for responding. As you pointed out, the first step is to keep the tree alive, that was the basis for my question. I wanted to know whether it was necessary to move the tree to the clay pot provided in the kit or not, to keep it alive.

It's a bit more complicated than "March ". The best time to repot is just when new growth starts to pop out. Usually that is in mid Spring, March most places, but it can be before that. The last two years my elms have started leafing out in January, others February, some as late as April.
Let the tree tell you when, but expect it to be March or so.
