Hello all,
I just got my first tree, it's a green mound juniper and I'm wondering where to set it. I live in New England so it's pretty cold outside and there's some snow on the ground and I'm wondering if I should keep my tree inside until spring or bring it outside now? I've been looking around online and found conflicting advice, I'm especially lost since this tree is new and I don't know if/how that would change it's ideal location.
Thanks!

If you want it to live do not keep it inside. Put it out in sheltered spot it will be fine

what is pretty cold? England is not so cold afaik.
Anything in the -10 to -15 range is no issue as long as you do not put it in full sun and wind.

Thank you all. If I put it outside the snow won't be an issue? It's usually around 25-45 F in the winter and a few inches of snow every few weeks.

How long has it been inside- was it inside where you bought it? Bringing it from 20-25 degr inside to below zero temps can be quite a shock. You could ease the transition by placing it in a unheated room in your house, then garage/garden shed, then outside.
Btw, it doesnt freeze under the snow, so no worries about that. Trees do not have thermometers and warm houses, they need to be outside

It is no different if the tree was outside and the temperature dropped from 20C to -C. having it in for any length of time is not good.

It was in a greenhouse and has only been inside my home for a day or so. I'll ease it to outside, thanks. I saw some talk of putting it in styrofoam box or some sort of surrounding to protect from wind. Should I do this or just put it outside and insulate the pot?

Junipers love the protection that snow give. Just put on the ground and let the snow cover it.
