Juniper in winter

I am purchasing a Juniper for 名媛直播. I live in North Carolina and understand that I can prune and wire now. But wait until spring to put in a 名媛直播 pot.. However I am concerned with it surviving throughout the winter. Could I put the container it comes in underground until time to repot in the spring to protect its roots?
Help appreciated

Yes, you can dig the rootball into the ground, However not at all necessary.

Usually low 30s but we have gone as low as 17 occasionally. Snow maybe once a year

-8c (17f) is not a problem for Junipers as long as they are protected from strong winds and it doesent stay that low for weeks. If they are covered in snow it can go lower and longer without problem.

that is a very mild winter. No need to put plant in the ground for that.
