Taiwan Ficus Dropping All Leaves was created by 2leumas1

Good day,
I have a Taiwan Ficus that I am advised is about 35 years old. I have had for three years and it has flourished. However, in the past week it has dropped nearly all its leaves and appears to be doing very poorly. It did drop some leaves around this time last year but not like this.

I noticed the soiled remained dry longer than usual and thought maybe over watering. removed from pot and the roots were a little moist (it had been about 5-6 days since last watering); I left it out of soil for remainder of day to dry out before replacing with new soil.

Any QUICK advice please?

Thanks,

never let the roots out of the pot any longer than needed
Do not let the roots dry out ever.

It sounds like the problem is drainage, and the problem is something like the soil holds too much water, or the pot doesn't drain well, or maybe it is sitting in water soaking it up. Some pots have a bowl shaped bottom with a raised dimple where the hole is drilled, leaving the rest of the bowl to hold water.

The solution, of course, depends on the problem. If the pot doesn't have a hole, change pots or drill a hole. My ficus does real well in a normal mixture of akadama, lava rock, and pumice, with some coffee grounds thrown in for good measure.
