Hi all,

Bought a 名媛直播 tree today at garden centre and just looking for advice!

The tag said it was a “Ficus Ginseng” but know things can be mis sold in garden centres so I wondered if someone could confirm from the pic?

Any tips for keeping whatever species it is would be gratefully received!

Cheers,

Alex

This is a ficus ginseng indeed. They dont have much in common with bonsai, but ar still sold as, proboably for pure profitability reasons.

Good day,
I have a Taiwan Ficus that I am advised is about 35 years old. I have had for three years and it has flourished. However, in the past week it has dropped nearly all its leaves and appears to be doing very poorly. It did drop some leaves around this time last year but not like this.

I noticed the soiled remained dry longer than usual and thought maybe over watering. removed from pot and the roots were a little moist (it had been about 5-6 days since last watering); I left it out of soil for remainder of day to dry out before replacing with new soil.

Any QUICK advice please?

Thanks,

As Trop said: this has nothing to do with bonsai, you will get more help in a common houseplant forum

Thanks Tropfrog! I wasn’t aware that it wasn’t actually a bonsai! Can I ask what makes it not a bonsai?

There are a lot of features of a tree that makes it a bonsai not only size. Nebari, taper, movement, ramification pot etc. None of them are present in your tree. Althou very hard, it is possible for skilled growers to make it into a fairly acceptable bonsai in say 5-10 years. In your tree that would most likelly include finding a nice stone with perfect fit to close that gap inbetween the roots and make it a root over rock bonsai.
