Ficus Failure

I have had my Ficus for 8 years and it has always done well. I make sure it gets lots of light, not too much water, and I feed it quarterly. All of a sudden it dropped about 1/3 of its leaves (see attachment). I have been remiss by not re-potting it but I did not re-pot because it was doing so well.I know re-potting normally occurs in the spring but I am afraid if I wait until then my tree may die. Is it acceptable to re-pot now? It is an indoor tree and not subject to bad weather.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Did you move the tree before leaf dropping started?
