Phis plant is a Chinese Elm and needs to be outside. It is in serious need of pruning as well.

I am a little confused, I have researched this plant and most sites say it is a bonsai plant that can thrive inside as well as outside.
While the plant has been indoors there have been quite a few new shoots and leaves growing on the plant which lead me to believe it was doing well.
I have had it since the beginning of October, and have been watering it according to advice found on various sites that suggest submerging the whole pot in tepid rainwater until no bubbles rise, then only watering as and when the soil begins to lose its moisture just below the surface. Not a fixed routine to avoid over or under watering.
I have fed it with a brand name bonsai liquid feed mixed as per instructions which I
Intend to do every 3 weeks.
It has been placed in an area indoors that gets a reasonable amount of sunlight and since I originally posted my Id request I have been putting it outside for most of the day, bringing it in each evening.
I don't have the central heating on all the time so the temperature change isn't that great. No more so than from night to day if left outside permanently.
I am aware that it needs trimming, this will be done when I have enough confidence and a proper grasp of technique as well as some idea of the end result I want.
Is there anything else I should be doing or not doing?
It is a little daunting when advice differs and sometimes completely contradicts from site to site and book to book.

Indoors dont neccesary means central heated living room conditions. That is an Environment not many trees can survive in. For sure not chineese Elm. If you are in usda zone 7 or above, leave it outside at all times except if you face several days with below 10 degrees c. Then take it to a sheltered spot like a shed or unheated greenhouse. Never into living room conditions.
