Hello everyone,
I am in a hardiness zone 5 area. ( Southern Ontario ). I have an olive tree bonsai and every where I read says they need about a one month dormancy period at around 5-7 degrees celsius.
Which here the month of October almost perfectly meets those criteria.
My question is should i or is it safe to move my olive bonsai to an unheated garage where it will stay that temperature until the spring.
or
Could I bring it into the house at the end of October (1 month of dormancy) and keep it in a south facing window until next summer.
Thank you for any assistance!

Do not put in the house. Mine stay outside under an open cover all winter, mainly to keep them drier. Mine do not lose their leaves and I think in a garage they would not get enough light and would cause it to drop leaves which it is not supposed to do. The tree will go dormant when it is ready. Mine are dormant all winter.

I think you want to do something to protect it during December to February. Inside is not good for trees, but outside in way below freezing is not good for olives, either.
There is probably a bonsai group in Toronto and they could help with time frames, methods they use in thee climate there, etc.
If not, you could contact Bill Valvanis in Rochester, New York, at the International 名媛直播 Arboretum. He is close enough that he could give good advice.
