Strange coloration on my Weeping Willow bonsai was created by Joesaurus

Hello all. So back in the spring I took a cutting from a weeping willow and got it to root. It has been doing very well since then. However, it has a strange coloration on the top half. While the bottom half is green, the top half is an almost dead looking brown. Should I cut this discoloration off? What does it mean?

the top half is dying off/is dead.
Leaves are looking a bit pale/discolored too but it is auums so could be normal ( on mine they are stil nice and green).
is there a drainage hole in that plastic conainer its growing in?Although willow likes to sit with its feet in water if water cant run through and keepsstanding all the time could be a problem.

It’s also worth noting that that has been there for a while. The way I rooted it was I literally just walked up to the tree, cut off the end of one of its branches, and stuck it in water for a month. The brown has been there ever since.

..which is quite logical: the cutting couldnt provide enough water for itself so it "ejected" a part.
Just cut it off and let a new leader grow. This way you will allso create a bend in the future trunk. Let it grow a year or two, cut back again, and so on
This is mine right after a good trim, you can see very well where i cut ( 4 times already)

Thank you so much! So if I wanted to cut one of the little green twigs off of the brown part and graft it onto the hole that the brown part will leave, how would I go about doing that (because it’s kind of in a weird position)?

next time, try to cut a much heavier branch. It's gonna give you a better result, and you gain some years , and the trunk is gonna be bigger.Go for a branch 2 or 3 cm thick.

Why on earth would you do that? It's just a cutting!!! leave the dead part on or cut it off, in both cases you will not even know where it was in 5 years. You are not doing anything bonsai-ish to it, it's just horticultural. Your only goal now is to fatten up the trunk ( and if you want give it some movement by cutting back to a side shoot which will become the new leader/ top for a while )
