Hey all, new here. I've had my jade tree (Portulacaria afra) for a couple years now and it's doing great. I've kept it outside where it gets direct sun about 6 hours a day while the temps have been over 55F (I'm in SE Michigan, zone 6A). Last year, I boarded it at a greenhouse about 45 minutes from my place. It did amazing there. While the boarding wasn't expensive or anything ($12 per month), I'd still like to have it here where I can enjoy it.
What I'm wondering is if it's possible to recreate something like a greenhouse in my place? I was considering getting an aquarium and treating it like I was using the "dry start" method that some hobbyists use when setting up live-plant aquariums. That is, just keeping the tree in the tank, spraying it when needed to keep it moist, the tank covered with plastic wrap to keep the moisture in, and have a day/night cycle via full spectrum lighting.
Has anyone tried and been successful with something like this before? Open to any suggestions.
Thanks!

This is really a house plant question and has little or nothing to do with bonsai. There are some houseplant fora that should have answers.

Keeping your tree in a humid aquarium in room temperature in winter will Most likelly kill it. Portulacaria likes cold and bone dry during the winter. If you have a cold but frost free place awailable, that is the best. If not they will make it thrue the winter in living room conditions in a southern facing window. Just need some water then.

Ah OK. I kept it inside the first winter I had it and it lost almost all its leaves and the trunk wasn't happy at all. That's why I put it in boarding the second winter where it thrived. I'm in an apartment, so it's all pretty much one temp, which is usually around 68 during the winter months. My only window that I can keep it in is NW facing unfortunately. Unless when I move I get a better window option, it might just be back to boarding it goes.
Thanks for the info though.

I have one dwarf jade in a southern window all year round. It grows, but not thrive as the ones that get outside in summer.
Leaf drop is a commons sign of overwatering.
