Repotting new plant was created by lispott

Hello, I am new to the forum and to bonsai. I received an azalea bonsai as a gift. I am in Colorado zone 5. I am wondering if I should repot the plant Since it came from a nursery, or wait til after it flowers in spring? Also it has flower buds now so should I remove those? Would keeping it in a garage at 40-50 degrees for the winter work? We get some pretty heavy frosts. I appreciate any advice and help!

Why do you feel you have to repot now?

Do not repot now. Repot in spring.
Keep the tree as close to freezing as you can.
Make sure it stays below 45 or it will start growing ni winter
Azalea make the flowerbuds for next year at the second half of summer. So it is normal to have the buds. If the buds are opening something else is going on.

Most azaleas bloom in the spring.

I have several labeled fall blooming which started blooming in late July and have had continuous blooming since then.

Whenever they start to bloom, when the flowers start to fade cut them off. This keeps energy from going into seeds and either makes new flowers or strengthens the existing branches. Either way you are ahead. 50F might be a little warm. 40 would pror5be ok. Probably keep it above 20F and it would be fine.
