Chinese Elm from seedling help! was created by MusketUK

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me with what my next steps are with my Chinese Elm pre-bonsai.

History:
After a few attempts with stratification of the seeds, I finally got a shoot in October 2019. Since then it has been slowly growing under its own steam.

End of July 20, I re-potted it, having realised I should have re-potted in March/April. Which helped the plant, as it did seem to be struggling (you may see the mid area which isn't so nice compared to the rest).

I'm not really sure what my next steps are, as since re-potting, it has started growing mentally fast!

Help!

Cheers,

Well, the soil is too wet.
The large leaves show us it needs more light.
It is begging to go outside forever.
You will need to prune it to three or four leaves above that small little branch (to the left ).
If it were my seedling, I would prune it in the Spring just in that gap way below the stem.
To keep it alive is your first challenge!

I think I would just put it outside. It has a nice height. Provide some support. THen next year, let it grow. It should sprout branches all along the main trunk. Shaoe the trunk in an elegant line and let it grow for a year or two.
