I am moving from Florida to Seattle in November with 2 small dogs, a large adult, me and a Ficus bonsai I’ve had for 30 years, named Athena, in a Scion xA (very small car).
I need to pack up her pot a week before and try to get her to go a little dormant for the trip, I think. I hope to shake off most of the soil, trim roots and stems, pack her in a plastic bag with damp paper towels(?) so I can safely secure her in the car for the trip.
She is very hearty and has been pruned every few years, maybe 5 times. Any advice?

I don't think you can make it go dormant. I also think bare rooting would stress it tremendously. I would try to keep it in the pot.

I guess I will have to find another way to get her there.

Keep the tree in the pot. It will cope with a few days in the car, no problem.

Just slide the tree pot and all in a box and move it with the rest of the stuff in the car.
