I have owned a Chinese Elm 名媛直播 tree for approximately 6 months and thus I am a complete amateur looking for help to save me killing the tree.
Initially the tips of the tree started to turn yellow (I suspect from under watering), since then I have maintained the soil conditions and regularly watered the tree during the heatwave. It is kept outside in the garden so that it has sufficient sunlight, however in the last day the leaves on one side of the tree have turned very black (as indicated by the below image), the other side of the tree is still fairly green and the new shoots / leaves are still growing and also green.
Upon purchase the tree had minor black spot however I do not believe my issue is a disease and I suspect is more to do with overwatering the tree. On purchase I was advised to water it at least once a day until the water drains through the soil, which is exactly what I have done.
I would really like to know if there is any way to distinguish if it is over watering or under watering causing my issue or if this is a totally separate problem that I am not aware of:
I just hope that it’s not too late and that I am still able to save the tree from dying as I did not purchase a tree to kill it. I will return to the bonsai centre on Wednesday in the hope that they can aid me in reporting it however any advice would be gratefully received.
Thank you all in advance.

Watering to a schedule is not the way. Water when the soil is almost dry, that could be more than once a day if hot. I don't think there is much wrong, possibly lack of water at some point. Highly unlikely it is overwatering unless you had it in a bucket for hours. Never re pot at this time of year, there unless you are in Australia. Just gently remove the dry leaves and keep it watered. Otherwise nothing to worry about
