Hello and thank you for reading!

I have posted two threads about a month ago regarding a young ginseng grafted ficus that I had, from ignorance, allowed the root stock to grow leaves as opposed to the grafted leaf plant. In what I saw as a risky move, though guided by responders to my post, I cut over 75% of the green mass of the ficus. It has recovered beautifully with over a dozen new buds and is growing rapidly in our hot and humid summer here in Pennsylvania, United States.

I am incredibly thankful for this growth offered by my tree, however I have noticed that only the front half of the graft grows, as seen in the attached picture. *You can also see the cut that was made removing the former rootstock branch.* What can be done to get shoots in the back?

I did a little research (though I have much more faith in you all more experienced than I), and found that this unbalance could be a root problem. When I received this bonsai in the mail as a gift approximately 4 years ago, I didn’t notice that one of the two smaller banyan roots was half dead. I noticed the front half of it was orange, and the rear half was a brown matching the wood of the rest of the trunks. At age 14, with no bonsai experience, I didn’t think much of it, and as it died off I pruned the then shriveled and dead root-trunk. It’s been so long, I can’t recall if the leaves dropped then, but I figured that was worth mentioning and I know it is very visually apparent.

I have two questions from all of this... what can be done to encourage shoots in the back, and what can be done to clean up where the root-trunk was cut? Thank you very much for any input/advice you can provide, and thank you for reading!
