Hot weather bonsai care - sphagnum moss?

Hoping to get some input on hot weather bonsai care. Here in Colorado, it’s been in the 90’s the past few weeks, with low humidity. I have been watering twice, or even three times a day. I was thinking of adding a top layer of sphagnum moss to help with moisture loss. Would this help or hinder? I have heard sphagnum moss can increase the acidity of soil, so I don’t want to cause more issues. Thoughts?

Herons bonsai uses New Zeeland long fiber sphagnum moss to revive week trees. If there were any problem with slightly lower ph, it would not work. I say go for it.

I don't see how a plant could alter the pH but anyway, I have used sphagnum on the surface of my trees for many years and it has not caused any problem I have seen. I prefer collected moss but if I can't get any then it is just as good.
