Avocado seed sprouting process was created by Pan

I'm just new to bonsai. In fact, this is my very first, if ever my avocado seed will make it into a good one.
My seed is currently half watered using a toothpick technique. It's been a week now.
Question is, how long should it takes to show promising result? And how long should I wait before I give it up?
I plan to start my first bonsai from a seed. And is an avocado bonsai tree a good bonsai?
Thanks!

avocado is not ideal for bonsai infact i've never seen one. for a first tree i suggest at least nursery stock, if you start with seed you have atleast 5-10 years before you would even do anything bonsai related and that even includes putting it in a bonsai pot.

Avocado can take weeks to sprout. You want to make sure it is pointed the right way. There are a number of internet sites with directions, so ask Dr. Google.

Almost anything I try to grow from seeds doesn't. I picked up a dozen maple seeds and a month later has no sprouts but under the tree there were dozens growing all by themselves.

Watch me, see what I do, and whatever I do, do something else.

I'm new to bonsai myself, but am in progress of sprouting an avocado seed as well.
The attached picture shows the situation after one month of sitting in water, also using the toothpick method.
Some sources tell you to peel the seed and others don't: I started out NOT peeling it, but peeled it anyway after about two weeks. Not sure if that is why it took a month for me to have a root emerge.

Not sure if you can make a bonsai out of an avocado in the traditional sense (a convincing miniature tree), though I believe you can make a fun houseplant out of it.
Perhaps giving it a funky shape through wiring.

Avocados sprout easily from the toothpick/water method.
But they are not so good for bonsai, its leaves are too big and difficult to reduce.

avocado bonsai..

Been there
Done that
Tossed it

The growth is coarse (Yes, you can get short internodes, I was at less than a cm) and the leaves are large ( You can reduce, but I got stuck at 7 or so cm).. It is just bad at ramification, lots of hard work to tame. It is not worth the effort. There are MUCH easier species to work with, and these are also readily available.

Once you have 10 years bonsai experience, reconsider. Than you know what to look for.
