Possible over watering on a Juniper, How do I recover??? was created by mantequillas

Hello all,

Thank you for an amazing community!! I recently received a Juniper 名媛直播. After a month of care I went on vacation and left the plant with a neighbor with strict watering instructions. But when I returned the tree had yellowed and was super brittle, I believe that it was overwatered, two reasons 1: she tends to water a lot, 2: the temperatures had consistently been over 100°F.

Is there anyway to recover from this? When I did the nail test on the trunk it came out green so I think some might be salvageable, but need help! Hopefully these pictures help, if I have misdiagnosed can you point me in the right direction to solve the issue?

Thanks for your help!!!

P.S. Brought inside for photos only, better light, it is an outside tree.

How long did the plant stay in somebody else’s care?
Reason for asking is that it takes a long time for juniper to show foliage is dead (that’s what the brittleness is). Months, even...

If all the foliage it brittle, it is done. WIll not come back.

It probably was not watered enough tbh.

It was only a week but was fine when I left. I also my have been slightly over watering I had been watering the soil then making sure the tray bellow had water so that it would evaporate during the day hopefully giving moisture to the air.

I wouldn’t say all the foliage is brittle, but a large percentage is. So I remove that?

Leave it alone. Adjust the watering to the climate. Junipers won’t need a water tray as they do fine in very dry climate. If the soil is very draining (it looks that way from the photo, but it’s not like I can really tell), water abundantly twice or even three times a day.

Temps in the 32-35 over here, and I do water my junipers three times a day indeed.
If the substrate drains freely (akadama and pumice mostly, in my case) the only way to overwater a plant is basically putting the entire pot in a basin... junipers included.
