is this due to a sudden increase of sunlight exposure? overwatering?

if its receiving more sun and heat and your getting leaf scorch then you need to water more and keep the tree somewhere it receives either morning or evening sun only and out of intense midday heat. oh and more heat and sun means more water so make sure you keep up on watering.
