Hello! I recently posted a
thread
on trimming a large shoot from the rootstock of my grafted ficus bonsai. There, I included a picture that showed over 75% of the plant's green mass was from this rootstock that I have now removed. The remaining leaves from the graft are living, but are extremely old. I am taking this bonsai to college with me in 25 days to have under a grow light with a small humidifier on it. I have been fertilizing it with aquarium water, as will as some micro ferts. My options:
Keep it in the south-facing window it's been at for years with the humidifier on it until I leave.
Move it to my room and put it under the light to start the acclimation.
Move it outside (current weather is low 90s and high humidity to kick start growth.
I understand with this bonsai any change in lighting will give the chance to drop it's only 6 remaining leaves. What would you suggest I do to get the growth to resume? Thank you for any help.

I would always put ficus outside for the warm period of the year.
Be carefull as the leaves cannot handle the UV direct sun will give it. So place it outside in dappled shade for a few weeks before moving it into the full sun.

Thank you! I will put it outside in shade, but I will avoid moving it into direct sunlight since I'll have to take it back in soon.

On Aug 20th I am moving to college where I will not be able to keep it outside. I have a high-quality grow light (Finnex FugeRay Planted+ from my aquarium days) that I will be keeping it under in my room.

After just 24 hours outside, it has put out 4 instances of aerial roots! Still absolute no change in leaf growth, so I trimmed the leaf buds that are several years old. Hopefully the auxins can go elsewhere.
