Hi, just been given this plant as a gift and I suppose it’s the thought that counts ... but anyway the label claims it’s Japanese holly but I don’t agree ... does anyone have a clue what this plant is please ? And if so what’s the likelihood of being able to actually training? Also , The branches whilst thin have almost no bend in them . Thank you!

Looks like an ash to me. Compound leaves, grey Bark and little black buds. Not sure if it’s common or manna.

It is not Japanese Holly that is for sure, possibly Ash, not an easy species for bonsai.
