Chinese Elm brown leaves

Purchased a 3 year old Chinese elm approximately a month ago that was healthy. I have been watering daily, using solid fertilizer on the soil, and have it outside and it is not in direct sunlight the entire time. Also I noticed this morning the leaves have completely turned brown, we have had a lot of storms lately this Summer. Some of the soil from the pot had been washed away because of the heavy rain. The roots were also exposed. To help the situation I added lava rock, pumice, and akadama soil to fill the pot back up.
I am wondering if the tree is trying to protect itself because of the expose roots, if the tree is overwatered, or if there is something else that could be wrong?

It is dead, nothing more to do.
Difficult to say what caused it, too much water ( water only when soil feels dry, not on a schedule), too much fertiliser, the exposed roots or a combination of them all, or other causes.
