I just recently aquired a Japanese maple and the leaves are wilting. I live in zone 7a. I repotted this past Sunday and it's only been 4 days. I keep it out in the open so through the day it's not covered in shade, and is in full sunlight for at least 4-5 hours a day.

The soil I used was a mixture of sphagnum moss, akadama, hyuga, lava rock. I dug it out of a forest and trimmed the roots.

Would anyone be able to tell me what I'm doing wrong or anything I can do to help the Japanese maple readjust to its new environment? I thought it was in shock from replanting, but I'm not entirely sure.

You repotted in the wrong period of the year and your aftercare is completely wrong.
Repotting is done in late winter, early spring when buds break.
Get it out of the sun, in the shade, give it a good drench with the garden hose, and hope it survives.

Your plant is having troubles getting water to the leaves due to recently being moved.

At this point, I would move the tree to the shade, and remove most of the leaves, just leaving one or two at the end of each branch. Then wait. Water sparingly (Too much water stops the roots from forming).

Would you guys happen to know what kind of japanese maple this is by any chance? I was under the assumption that it may be a Korean gem, but I'm probably far off..

in general hard to tell. And even more if it grew in a shady forest, and has nog had the leaves toasted.
