Hey all!!
I’ve just joined the forum and would really like any advice you might have on shito bonsai!
I have a 6 year old ligustrum bonsai which I bought last year from a garden centre. A couple of months after I’d bought it, shoots started appearing from some exposed root. Before I trimmed them and covered with soil, I took a ‘shoot’ and planted it.
This is 14 months later (trimmed yesterday)! Her shape is constantly changing recently as there’s new growth most days. I’m wondering if I should stop pruning for a couple of months but firstly cut back the branches to allow the trunk to get thicker!?
I’ve no clue what I’m doing, but ideally I’d like to keep her this size. Has anyone had experience growing and maintaining mini shito bonsai and any tips?
Thanks in advance ??

Huge idea here: you can cut off, but you can't cut on. So, only cut when you are sure you want it gone. There are no do overs in pruning.
The longer it grows the thicker everything is. I would spend a lot of time looking at it, seeing where the tree's front is, then looking some more. When a branch or twig cries out that it should not be there, cut if off, but wait until you know it should not be there.
Look in the empire's How-To section for when to prune, etc.
