Hello everyone.
I just found and bought this maple bonsai for 15 $ from a guy who has a lot of plants but not many bonsais. i talked to him and i realized that he has some wrong information and is not a bonsai guy at all . but anyway he told me 2 things that I am wondering if they are true or not since he was very sure of them and he believed they are lethal . here is the 2 thing he said :
1. Don't give it any sunlight . he said keep it in bright place in shade and don't give it any direct sunlight cause this tree is got used to no sun at all ! he said direct sunlight would kill this tree . I am wondering if that is a thing ? maple tree can get used to not getting sunlight at all? all i've heard learned about them is that they need a place with morning sun and afternoon shade .
2.Don't remove and change the soil even if you are repotting it because the tree is used to this soil . the tree is literally in mud . the soil sticks to my finger like a hard cream when I rub it . it's obviously not a suitable soil for a maple bonsai and the pot is a deep and not wide plastic thing which is not good for health and look at all . so I have to repot this but if he is actually right about this , should i keep some of this muddy soil on the new pot ? or I just remove the whole mud and replace it with a good mix ?
thank you guys . here is something I already have searched for :
And another question :
With the conditions I already explained , and considering that this is not the ideal time of the year for repoting , Do you need it's better for me to repot it really carefully and do a lot of after care for it Or I should let it be in same condition until the repotting time arrives?
All the Info I have is here :
1.The last Owner did not know much about it .and was not taking a good care of it
2.The foliage are fine but seem a little unhappy .I've seen better
3.from the soil lvl to the top of the tree is about 16 inches tall (~40cm).
4.I don't know how long this tree was kept in this muddy soil and little direct sunlight .
Thank you every one . I appreciate all the helps

Maples do fine in shaded positions, However Will benefit from some direct sun. Too much Will burn their leaves.
If the tree is used to shaded position, make sure to get it used to more sun slowly.
Yes, it seems like this tree would benefit from repotting, However this is not the right time. Doing it now could kill it.
A big container is allways better for the tree than a small and shallow. But then it is not bonsai.
I would not say that he is totally wrong, Most of the things he told you is correct under some cirkumstances and wrong under other circumstances. Proboably based on own experiences.

whatever you do, dont keep it inside, it will die, no doubt about it. plac eit outside in the shade, then gradually into the sun , water when needed and repot in spring in decent soil

Maples need sunshine as all trees. They will not burn leaves if there is water at the roots. You must put this plant outside if it is not there already, and don't buy any more from this guy who has no more knowledge about plants than the man in the moon.
You will need to re pot this next spring into suitable soil.

I have a 30 year old maple in the front yard in full sun all day long. It does fine, as do the maple bonsais in the back that have been in full sun for at least five years. You want to transition to full sun to keep the leaves from burning.
There are huge discussions about soil mix. Nobody in the bonsai world uses pure dirt from the forest floor. Go to the empire section on soil and repotting and read up on it. You want to make some winter plans to see if you need to do anything to protect it from weather way below freezing, depending on your local weather. Repot in spring, when the tree begins new growth, in February to April, depending on local climate.

Thanks everyone for the advises , I think the best option available for me is to leave the tree in the pot and this soil . but the idea of repotting this carefully is killing me . I will research a little more to figure out the odds of surviving in case of repotting without root prune . any additional information and exprience is highly appreciated .

Also there is another thing i need to ask , I took the tree out of the pot since it was a bit loose and not hardly attached to the inner side of the pot . I found a big damn worm which i searched for is Pheretima kind . and there was some saying of the harm of these worms for sugar maple trees . are they bad for my plant ? the dealer also warned me to check for dark red worms when i repotted them cuz they are killing the tree . if thats the case , I'm strongly considering repotting

I would not think twice about repotting to be honest. Maybe not a full-on bare rooted repot, but I would remove the outer 50% of this dense muck and repot in something with airy fluffy consistency.
As said earlier.. Maples, well watered, do not suffer from full sun. HOWEVER, the leaves the plant now has were exposed to shade. Putting it in the sun now will burn the leaves. Transition slowly.
