Being new to this I need some help - Can anyone identify this tree please? Looking at pictures I have taken a guess at sageretia theezans (bird plum) - Any help would be appreciated as well as any tips for care!
I have attached picture but this was a few weeks ago, half of the leaves have since fallen off/dried up, although there are still new shoots/leaves coming through - Is this normal? Thank you

There is no picture, but i assume your tree is inside, on a windowsill. If so, it needs to be outside, shaded now , gradually more sun. trees die inside.

It is outside but have been bringing it in when the weather is not as good. Around half of the leaves have now dropped off, wasn't sure if it was getting too much sun outside as this area is in the sun for most of the morning. Will upload a picture later of how it looks now.

Trees really dislike being moved. " funny mode on": i dont think there are much trees in your neighbourhood that go inside when weather is -for us- bad " funny mode off"
Give it a nice spot outside, water , fertilliser now and then and enjoy your tree. In the meanwhile, dig through this forum , or go to a local bonsai club to get some more knowledge

Thank you. One last thing - Would you agree that it is a sageretia theezans (bird plum) or something else? Want to make sure when I am researching I am actually looking at the right info.
