Just wondering if this trunk is worth saving.
I think it is some sort of Illex with red berries it is the remains of some hedges that are coming out and it is atleast 10 years old.
I am fairly new to this, however I am assuming that I can use the developed trunk as a base to build new branches on.
It would be nice to have something with a developed trunk rather than the 2 year old saplings I am still growing.

That looks like a good tree to collect for a beginner. However, now is not the right time.

Thanks for the response.
Sadly it is now or never I will try to take as much of the surrounding soil as possible and put it in large container and let it recover for a year.

Sounds like a good plan. Disturb the roots as little as possible.

Looks like a cotoneaster to me. These are very tough. You can dig and pot in a sizable container with no big concern. THen place out of direct sun or wind untill you see signs of recovery.
Do NOT keep the substrate soaking wet as this will hinder root development. Just lightly moist is perfect.
