Azalea dying??? Winter Australia was created by LucySanders99

Hi everyone, I am new to bonsais and was gifted a Satsuki Azalea bonsai on Valentines Day. The tree is a cutting and I have had it for about 4 months. It is currently winter in Australia and I am not sure if my tree is dead or not. The leaves have started to go brown and the stems are dry and brittle. It gets watered properly about twice a week, not over watered or under watered.

During the warmer months, I had it outside for the majority of the day, not in direct sunlight but would bring it in when it got too hot.

Around the middle of April when it started to get colder, I started bringing it outside and it seemed okay and then when it started to go into winter, the tree started to go brown and brittle. It has been outside during winter so that it could go into dormancy as that is what I was told it would do. Could it be like this because it is winter or have I somehow killed it? :(

I have attached a photo of how it looks like now and would love ANY advice possible.

Thanks heaps.

It is dead.
Your story isn't completely clear to me : you say you brought it inside, when it got colder ( what is colder for Australia: below 10, or 0?) , but then speak of outside for dormancy, bringing it inside in summer,etc..
Trees need to be outside, or they die, it's as simple as that. Unless it freezes deep and long ( -10 at night for days with during the day too) so the rootball freezes completely they need to be outside ( as a generaal rule , of course there are tropical species that need more protection).

This tree must be outside, needs sun and water. I would say that you are unlikely to recover it now, it has gone too far. You could cut the dead bits off and leave it to see what happens but Azaleas cannot be kept inside they will as you see die. Twice a week watering is 5 times too little. Watering should be when to soil is damp, Azaleas like water, they do not like to be dry.

I always made sure that it was watered enough, and as it is cold at the moment where I live, the soil kept damp very well. But thank you for the response.

what do you mean by cold? They will take -5C easily.
