Hi, I've noticed yellow growths on my prunus mume in a region that was predominantly green bark this spring. Most of the area has turned brown at this point and small yellow growths have popped up. I would like to know what they are and whether the bark is diseased. I may be acting paranoid, but the cultivar I'm growing is apparently very disease-prone and I don't want it dying.

My first assumption was just lenticels but the amount seems much too dense, and that there appears to be a border between the yellow spot region and the old bark where the yellow spots are most prevalent that makes me think it's some kind of disease.

I also accidentally scraped a thin vertical strip of the outer bark off in the potentially diseased region, which came off very easily. Although I regret this because the last thing I want is to take chances with a secondary infection, it also showed the tissue/green bark underneath seemed to still be green and healthy.

Attached below are images. The last one depicts my accidental bark damage, of which I could also use some advice in mitigating any disease risks while it hopefully grows it back if that's necessary.

There is no problem I can see, I hope it is not inside though. I can't see yellow growths, but if there is then it is indicative of lack of light. This plant needs full sun.

I see no problem. Branches turn woody over time. As you do not show the whole plant we cannot see the yellow growth!

What cultivar are you growing that is sensitive to diseases? Did not know there are differences between the different mume cultivars in that respect.
