Growing bonsai with new brown insects - kill them all! was created by Buket

Hi All,

I have a bonsai tree which grew many new leaves in the last couple of weeks. I once used a liquid fertiliser and then discovered that it likes to be watered more frequently than usual when I saw the new leaves appearing after frequent watering. This morning, I've noticed some brown spots on a few leaves; zoomed in and saw that they can move - insects!

Can you please help me in getting rid of them. My plant is so happily growing :cheer: that I don't want it to be disturbed by these insects. I can shower the leaves but wanted to check with you guys before as you know about bonsai - super useful forum and website!

Thanks a lot in advance! Attached you can see how the plant looks in general and one leaf with bugs :(

This plant may have something on it, impossible to tell what they are they on top or underneath? Could be scale insects, if they are rub them off with fingers, if not use a soapy mix to get rid but a VERY weak mix.

It is not insects, those are spider mites.

You have the plant in a place which has air with low humidity & too little circulation. Ficus can (and should) get nice and wet frequently. That also stops spider mites from reproducing.
Quick fix is to get a miticite from your garden centre/

Okay I'll continue watering it frequently. I put it in the balcony today as well for some air circulation. Thanks for your help!
