Top half of the tree is dead - cut it?

Hi, I’m very new to bonsais, and I’m not even sure my IKEA ficus microcarpa ginseng qualifies as a bonsai. But I don’t know where else to turn. I haven’t found this anywhere online.
Thing is the top half of the tree’s trunk is dead. First it dropped its leaves (normal for change of atmosphere I’ve understood). Then it didn’t come back. So I tried to prune it pretty hard and taking better care of it’s watering needs.
Suddenly it started sprouting and new leaves and branches come out - but only from the bottom half. I’ve checked by carving and the trunk seems completely dead above the upper leaves. What should I do now? I would so much like another chance with this tree. Can I saw of the trunk from where it’s dead?
I live in Sweden, it is located inside with lots of light but no direct sun light.
Thank you in advance,
Emil
