Localized brown needles on my goyomatsu. was created by tajimishiRich

My goyomatsu is in rude health. It's mid spring here in Japan and I'm getting all the vigour and new growth i was hoping for.
There's just one worry for me. A cluster of needless - as far as i can tell just a single such node - is brown. The rest of the bonsai is green and vigorous. What's happening?
The needles aren't easily falling out, i gently tugged on them with no effect, they're just discoloured.

When I get a single branchlet dying off and the rest of the tree is in good health, I usually take it off and forget about it untill a second branch gets in trouble. Then I look for causes.
It is easy for something to bump into a branch and damage it unwittingly..
Of course, I could say.. It could be a cluster of aphids. Or it could be fungal. But right now, the tree looks perfectly OK..

Thanks for your great help! I'll have a very close look now and look for bugs all over the tree. I'll lop off that cluster too! I'll check back with photos if i notice anything~

Here are three more pictures. First of all, i was delighted to see that a baby Praying Mantis from the other end of the garden seems to have chosen my goyomatsu for a condominium!
Secondly, as you can perhaps see the needles at the foot of that candle are still green, so I'm not sure where i should cut, if i should cut at all.
Finally, in addition, i don't suppose you may have some tips for keeping the moss green?
Edit: sorry, all the photos are rotated clockwise 90°
